Recommendations from official docs

Let the AI crawlers in

Each engine uses its own crawler — Google relies on its index, ChatGPT search uses OAI-SearchBot, Claude uses ClaudeBot, Perplexity uses PerplexityBot. If robots.txt blocks them, your page cannot be cited. Allow the ones you want to appear in.

Answer the question directly

AI Overviews pull the passage that most directly answers a query. Lead with a concise answer, use question-style headings, and support it with detail. Burying the answer below long intros makes extraction less likely.

Serve readable HTML

The answer must exist in server-rendered HTML, not only after client-side JavaScript runs. Many AI crawlers do not execute JS fully, so content that loads late may be invisible to them.

Add structure and trust signals

JSON-LD (Article, Product, Organization), named authors, citations, and current dates give engines explicit, trustworthy facts. Note that Google retired FAQ rich results on May 7, 2026 — keep FAQs for users and AI answers, not for rich snippets.

Step-by-step action plan

  1. 1 Confirm robots.txt allows the AI crawlers you want and the page has no noindex.
  2. 2 Ensure the answer is in server-rendered HTML, not JS-only content.
  3. 3 Rewrite the page to answer one query directly, with question-style headings.
  4. 4 Add relevant JSON-LD and clear author/date trust signals.
  5. 5 Re-check across engines and monitor referral traffic from AI sources.

Questions about this tool

What does the AI Overview checker test?

Crawler access for Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot, plus indexability, server-rendered HTML, structured data, and answer clarity across AI engines.

How is this different from the Google AI Overview Checker?

This page covers AI Overviews and answers across Google, ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity. The Google AI Overview Checker focuses on Google-specific signals and E-E-A-T.

Does passing guarantee my page appears in AI answers?

No. Engines select sources algorithmically. Crawl access, indexability, and clear answers make a page eligible — they do not guarantee inclusion.
